How to balance your social media accounts | HootSuite

If you’re anything like me, you sometimes procrastinate. Yes, you’ll get to writing the next post, answering a tweet, eventually. But many times we often forget, or worse, rush through something on social media that really needed time, some thought to it and preparation.

So, what if we could take one day to set everything for the week and not have to really think about it anymore? What if you could promote your business without having to work at it every single minute of every day? Thankfully, with the advancements in social media, this option is not only possible but almost essential.

When I began blogging, I was told I had to build a brand, promote my stories every day and tweet as often as possible. But, who had TIME FOR TWEETING, POSTING, LIKING, COMMENTING, SHARING SEVERAL TIMES A DAY? I was working full-time, as well as a wife, a stepmother, a full-time student and a freelance writer. How could I ever find the time to promote my upcoming stories, events, blog and website?

For me that answer came in the form of HootSuite. HootSuite is a social media site that helps you balance other social media sites. I’ll explain. With this tool, I was able to schedule my tweets, Facebook posts and many other media for the following days or weeks. If I knew I would be publishing a story on Sunday, I would schedule communication to go out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, for example, to tease the story and let people know to check in on Sunday.  I could set it and then forget about it until next time.

If you think social media is complicated or too time consuming, you should really join the more than eight million people who have discovered how simple the process can be. Creating expectation and excitement while promoting your business has never been easier!

Think of social media like dating | Small business owner

For some, social media can be intimidating. But think of social media like dating – you will never find your ideal mate (of customer) if you don’t put yourself out there, even if doing so could potentially open you up to rejection – or criticism. For businesses, this could mean exposing itself to flaws and open criticism for everyone to see. However, just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not already out there.

My parents-in-law had a non-profit organization, which included a thrift store.  Although business was never great, the store did OK for itself and never saw a benefit for social media. The business didn’t even have a working website. That is, until my husband and I became involved. It turned out that although the store did not invite an online presence, customers were still reviewing the business through social networks. These reviews came complete with address and names.

Some reviews were good (phew). Yet, others pointed at some areas of opportunity such as “great prices, but a little messy,” and “hard to find what you want, try the store down the road,” ouch! But now that the store also had an online presence, we not only knew how we could improve, but could also use the opportunity to connect directly with the customer.

With this new tool, we let past and potential customers know what changes were made, provide photos (as proof) and invite them back! Customers that had given up on the store came back and new ones came in after seeing that some of the legwork had been done for them;  they could see what we had to offer even before stepping foot in the store. Photos were shared and friends were invited to visit. This is the power of social media!

 Learn. Improve. Connect. Grow.

Develop Direct Relationship With Customers Through Social Media | Impact of online presence

I admit – I’m a social media addict. But I’m in good company; more than 2 billion people in the world and about 78.6% of the U.S population are internet users. Over 1 billion are on Facebook, and the average person spends about 3.2 hours a day on social media.
For businesses, this means that if they are not online and actively using social media, they are missing out on a great deal of potential customers.

Consumers are skeptical, and with so much ease at everyone’s fingertips, it is not likely someone will want to work to find a product. In fact, most users spend seconds on a website before moving on if they can’t find what they’re looking for. An accessible company is a trustworthy company. The easier a business is to find, the more likely a consumer will use its services.

Even if a website is not at the top of search engines, social media can attract tons of potential customers by creating a direct relationship. Even if a company has a few followers, the average Facebook user has over 200 friends. This is networking at its best. In no other way can a business gain so much exposure at such a low price – a high return for little investment.

When building a brand, make myself accessible. Created a blog. Although Facebook is popular, Twitter attracts a respectable 500 million users who crave instant information. Use Hootsuite to set up communication to be delivered at certain dates and times to all social sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.

Recently, a friend of mine who is an independent journalist set up a meeting with The Chicago Tribune. They found her website via Twitter, their media of choice. Focus Magazine, who eventually offered her a job in Tampa, found her stories through a link. By becoming accessible and easily searchable, my friend's work gained credibility and exposure, and that is the first step of growing a successful brand and business.

5 Questions you should answer before you start a new business | Entrepreneurship

Starting your own business is not an easy thing. We all have ideas, dreams and some sort of vision, but taking those to the next level and making something out of them is a completely different ball game.

I am an entrepreneur at heart. I worked for a major corporation and learned all the ins and outs of what it takes to be a “good corporate employee”. Fortunately for me, my own values and aspirations were not aligned with what was expected of me. I decided to leave my job to pursue my own passions.

5 QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ANSWER
BEFORE YOU START YOUR OWN BUSINESS
WWW.RBBRMARKETING.COM

And that’s where the hard work began. I knew what I wanted to do, but getting there was a road of lots of trials and tribulations. If you are reading this article you may be at a cross road seeking some help. Answers to the following 5 questions should help you clarify your path and lay down foundation of your new business.

Question One – Can I do this?

Know what your dream job is. Understand your own strengths, weaknesses and most importantly limitations. Take all that under consideration and ask yourself a few simple questions. If the answers are a "yes", then you are good to move on. If you hesitate and not sure, then think long and hard if the time is right for you.
  • Can I do this?
  • Do I have the will power and determination?
  • Do I have the resources?
  • Am I truly ready to start this journey?

Question Two – What can I offer that others have not?

Understanding what you bring to the table, your subject matter expertise, will help you realize the exact focus of your business. Answer the questions below to gain more clarity.
  • What do I want to offer that others have not?
  • What am I really good at?
  • What will set me apart from my competition?
  • How will I share the “what am I really good at” with others?
  • Am I passionate about it?

Question Three – Do you have a clear vision?

Now that you are a 100% sure that you have the right skill, knowledge or a product you can begin working on your vision - the path to success. Take a pen and paper (or your laptop) and start outlining the path. Remember, baby steps! Don't set yourself up by setting unrealistic goals that you won't be able to achieve.
  • What do I want to accomplish in year one, year two and maybe year three? I don't suggest you go too far.  Keep your vision “live” and “fluid”. Things change too much, too quickly and you don’t want to find yourself boxed in.
  • How will I get there?
  • What tools and resources do I need to meet my goals?
  • Are you goals S.M.A.R.T? (SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, RELEVANT, TIMELY)

Question Four – What networking groups should I join?

It is really important to collaborate with other professionals in your field and area. Even though you have a niche idea, you may not be as savvy when it comes to implementing it in the business world. You are a beginner entrepreneur after all. Do you research. Find the right groups, join them and start meeting with them. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and ask for help. Ask questions even if you think they may be the dumbest ones. Surround yourself by successful, smart business owners and learn from them.

Question Five – Do you have a support system?

You need your support system throughout the entire process. The ups are great! When things work out, you’ll feel like a million bucks. On the other hand, the downs will hit your hard and you'll need to have an escape plan in place for when they come. Get your family and friends on board with your plan. Be transparent and explain your vision to them. The more they understand what you are doing, the easier it will be for them to offer a shoulder when you need it.

My last advice is to always BELIEVE in yourself! Don’t let anyone take the wind from beneath your wings. Pay attention to those who offer encouragement, positive reinforcement and words of wisdom. Look away from the pessimists who want to crush your dream and who put you down. Remember, anything is possible. Work hard and your success will come.
