Creative Marketing | Joe Boxer Commercial

Kmart has most likely already claimed the #1 spot on the Most Viewed Holiday Adds of this season!

The retail giant is catching attention for it's Joe Boxer commercial featuring 6 sexy man wearing a suite and a bow-tie, but no pants!  To the tunes of "Jingle Bells" they shake their "manhoods" while wearing holiday underwear.

Now, you may or may not agree with me, but I love it! What an excellent example of a creative, fun, sexy yet tasteful marketing, a perfect way to capture the audience and steal the attention from the other marketers out there! Way to go, Kmart!

Now, I would love to hear from you! Do you agree with me or not? Please leave your comment below and let me know your thoughts. This is shaping up to be a great debate! :)

What is the Star Rating on my Facebook Page? | Facebook Five Star Rating

I was going about my business when a client of mine texted me and asked: "How did you get the Star Rating on our Porcao Facebook Page"? I was a little taken back. I looked at my mobil but didn't see anything. So I checked on my Mac and here it was! Out of the blue, well, not really, the Facebook Star rating magically appeared on the Home page!

Porcao Farm to Grill is a new hot spot located in the Brickell, Miami. This sophisticated, elegant, sexy
and upscale steakhouse that focuses their marketing efforts on drawing in the female crowd of Brickell and Miami.

When I made my "out of the blue, well, not really" comment above, what I really meant by it was that Facebook has been playing with the Star Rating application for years now. The first time around, the application was removed completely as many business found a way to incentivize or pay people to provide favorable ratings. Ultimately, the Star Ratings app lost its value as it was not accurate and most of the time paid for.

What has changed this time around?

Facebook's statement states the following:
"We’re extending star ratings on Facebook from mobile to desktop – to make it easier for people to discover great businesses around them. This is beneficial for both businesses and consumers. Star ratings encourage more people to rate a business, making it eligible to appear in News Feed and help others discover a business they didn’t know about previously. For businesses themselves, this also leads to greater brand awareness. We will continue to track engagement on place ratings to find ways to improve them over time.”

Now, what does this mean to you, your business and your competition?

Any business can choose to be dishonest about their Facebook Star Ratings and find a creative way to promote the best 5 ***** rating. But make no mistake about it. Consumers are not dumb. Consumers will figure out the truth sooner or later. A disappointed, led down costumer is far worse and more dangerous to your reputation than an honestly earned, average 3*** rating.

So, what should you do once this rating appears on your Facebook Page?

Well, first off, don't freak out about it! Embrace it! Run with it! Encourage your audience, your followers to provide your with feedback. People love to provide feedback. Engage them in a conversation and ask them one simple question; "Would you recommend our page to your friends?" Collect data, make improvements based on what you see and report out on those improvements. Knowing and understanding your audience, providing them with answers and solutions to their problems is KEY to your success.
"Building a successful business model isn't about changing your business based on every big of feedback. It's about understanding whom to listen to and why." - Steve Blank

Would you recommend this post to your friends?

I look forward to hearing you!

What does the new Facebook Privacy setting mean to you?

Did you find this important Privacy notification on your Facebook wall?

“We're removing an old Facebook setting called "Who can look up your Timeline by name."
What does it really mean? This setting was designed to control who could find your Timeline by simply searching your name. If you didn’t want to be found, you set your Privacy settings appropriately and that was it.

Now that the setting is removed (you will be prompted to acknowledge this change), anyone will be able to find you on Facebook. HOWEVER, and this is IMPORTANT! They will only be able to see what you allow them to see. If your privacy is important to you, set your photos, status updates or any other things you have shared to an appropriate setting – “Friends Only”.

Some of you maybe asking why is Facebook making this change. Some of you may find this change quite invasive and uncomfortable. The reality is, anything that you ever put anywhere on the Internet will live for ever. Your digital footprint will follow you for the rest of your life whether you want it or not. If you are not comfortable with the fact you are “discoverable”, then my recommendation is to stay away from your computer, iPhone, iPad, or any other gadget you like to use to browse the Internet. That’s the ONLY way you can be a 100% sure you don’t leave any digital footprints behind.

And for those of you who have accepted this change, here is why it’s happening. I actually view it as a positive change. And yes, I am setting my Privacy settings to “Friends Only”. This change will enable you to discover your friends, pictures, stories by phrases in GRAPH SEARCH (fancy name for the search window). For example, I was born in the Czech Republic. I went to the University of Ostrava. If I wanted to find my long lost friends who went to the same University, I could try to search them by a phrase "People who went to University of Ostrava". I can basically narrow down my search and be as specific as I want to for an ideal outcome.

So, the next time you log in to your Facebook profile, check out your Privacy settings. Ask yourself a question: ”Do you want everyone to see your wall, pictures, links, etc.” If not, make sure you update your Privacy settings accordingly. And don’t forget to update your past posts too!

How to overcome the fear of blogging

Do you have a desire to express yourself? Do you need to promote your business but not sure how? Do you want people to listen to why your business is the best one out there? Then you should consider starting a blog.

I am an extrovert. I am probably overly extroverted -- is that a thing? -- and I must express myself every chance I get. My first interaction with expression was when I acted in community theatre. It was exhilarating. Having the ability to put your feelings out there, each night, for the world to see is more euphoric than any type of drug on the market. The end of my theatre life, and expression, came when I took a job as a flight attendant and realized that I would not be home enough to act on stage.

I was devastated. Not so much about acting and being on stage but about having the ability to express myself.

My husband suggested I start a blog. I had no idea how to do that. A blog? Who would read it? What would I write about? Why would I want to start a blog?

With his encouragement, and help with all the website design, I started my first blog in 2008 with the title, Confessions of a Flight Attendant.

I can’t lie; it was horrible. I could barely write a sentence --I still question my ability today -- and my punctuation, sentence structure, and content was embarrassing. When I look back at articles that I wrote in 2008 I want to print them out, start a bonfire, and roast marshmallows on the burning sheets of paper.

What got me to where I am at today? Determination and hard work. I continued to write, albeit horribly, and never gave up. I trained myself not to take some negative comments personally. I realized that even those have something to teach me. I focused on that and continued with my work. Eventually, some months later, I started to feel better and more confident. I didn't even think about what people might say about my blog. I thought about how fulfilled I was typing my thoughts away and hitting the "publish" button. The fact that I started getting great reviews, positive comments and increased traffic was a much appreciated bonus.

The way to become a successful writer and blogger is to do it for yourself and eventually people will follow. The same principle applies to blogging about your business. If you love what you do, if you are passionate about it, the writing part will come really easy. And don't forget! Your audience is smart. They will always pick out the blogs that are written from heart, with a lot of passion. And they will pick out those that are scripted and written like school assignments.

When writing a blog, what matters most? Passion, content or outline?

Have you ever wondered about how you should write a blog? Have you ever gotten stuck when writing an outline for a particular topic? If yes, here is an interesting perspective on how PASSION can turn your next post into an instant hit!

RBBRMARKETING.COM

It doesn’t matter whether you refer to yourself as an introvert or extrovert, most people have the desire to express themselves. We become professional dancers, recording artists, brilliant painters, magnificent sculptures, and writers who produce bestselling novels for millions to enjoy. It’s part of our DNA to contribute to the universe in some way. It doesn’t matter how you contribute but that you do contribute.

An effective way to have your voice heard is by blogging. Sure, you could stand on the street corner, with signs and loud music, but as we all know not many people will take you seriously.

Blogging is the most successful way to bring your ideas, information, and stories to hungry readers. - Joe Brucker, Author of The Joe Show

Once you make the decision to start blogging the first wrinkle you will need to iron out will be the content of your blog.
  • What are you going to write about?
  • What do you think your readers want to read?
  • How will you keep them entertained, informed, and coming back for more?

My suggestion is to write those three questions down and place them somewhere near your computer, work space, or in your journal whenever you write.

Whatever topic you choose to write about you will have to be 100% passionate about it. This is imperative when becoming a blogger. Say you dislike onions. Alright, let me rephrase that, you actually loathe onions. You don’t want to create a blog about slicing, dicing, and canning onions. You surely don’t want to spend time writing posts with the title, “50 ways to cook with Onions.” Your readers will quickly lose interest in your blog because, like it or not, they can read through the lines and will see that you are not passionate about the subject you are writing about.

What you can do, and what I would do -- because I despise onions -- would be to start a blog about how to live your life onion free. The onion haters of the world, including myself, will run from their kitchens to their computers each and every day to dive into your tips, stories, and experiences regarding how to delete that menace of a root from their lives - forever.

To summarize, always remember the next three blogging principles:

1. Pick a topic you are Passionate about

Position yourself as a subject matter expert. Your readers will feel it through your words and will look at you as credible resource. Besides, you won't have to force yourself to sit in front of a computer and write a post on consistent basis. Passion = Fuel

2. Have your outline before you start writing

Prepare a good introduction to draw readers's attention to your article, emphasize key elements and make sure you take the readers to the core of your message right away.

3. Start writing, make the first step

Don't delay the process. Write your first fantastic blog! The longer you delay it, the more competitive advantage you provide to your competition. Are you writing you?
